Hi, I’m Martha coffin.
I didn’t set out to build a business — I set out to solve a problem I kept seeing over and over again: Students who were bright, capable, and trying their best, but completely stuck in math.
Not because they weren’t smart. Because they were missing the right foundation.
My Early Years
I’ve been teaching math in some form since high school — helping friends, working in a college math lab, and later tutoring students one-on-one.
Even early on, I noticed something frustrating: some students simply couldn’t grasp certain concepts — no matter how many times or ways I explained them.
At the time, I didn’t have an answer for why.
My Turning Point
Everything changed when I was introduced to the Making Math Real (MMR) methodology.
For the first time, I saw a system that didn’t rely on repetition or memorization — but on how the brain actually processes and retains information.
Concepts that had once felt difficult to teach suddenly became clear.
And more importantly, students began to understand — deeply and consistently.
Professional Background
I became a credentialed math teacher in 2012 and have spent over a decade working with middle and high school students.
Throughout that time, one thing became increasingly clear:
The traditional classroom structure doesn’t allow enough time to rebuild foundational gaps.
Students move forward whether they’re ready or not — and those gaps only grow.
Why This Work Matters
Over time, math becomes more than just a subject.
It becomes a label.
Students who struggle with math are often seen — and begin to see themselves — as less capable.
This is not only inaccurate, it’s deeply unfair.
Math struggles are often a reflection of how something was taught, not a student’s ability to learn.
And when students don’t get the support they need, it becomes a larger issue — one that disproportionately affects access to opportunities.
What I Do Now
Today, I work independently with students to rebuild their math foundation using a structured, science-based approach.
This is not tutoring.
It’s targeted, methodical work designed to:
Fill in foundational gaps
Reduce cognitive overload
Create lasting understanding
My goal is simple: to help students finally experience math in a way that makes sense.
Math should never feel confusing or painful.
With the right structure, every student can learn.
